After four years of studying Graphic Design at Plymouth College of Art, I started my career at Grey. The year 1986. I overstayed my placement period and eventually I was asked to leave. But I didn’t go quietly. In fact, I didn’t go at all. I made excuses to finish up projects I was working on. Projects that somehow lasted eleven years.
Eventually, I moved to Mellors Reay, under the charismatic, Tim Mellors. After a few years, I was lured to McCann London, a short but interesting period. Then on to Delaney Fletcher Bozel which, after a buyout, became Delaney, Lund, Knox Warren.
This was my second major stint, lasting 12 years. I helped grow a core team of about 40 staff to over 400 strong, to its standing as a fully integrated international agency. I helped the agency win countless pitches, and numerous awards.
But nothing lasts forever. In 2009 I took the liberating step of going freelance, working for top agencies like Leagas Delaney, Ogilvy and Mather and Naked in London and McCann in Birmingham across all media and categories.
In 2017 my erstwhile writer and now Group ECD of McCann invited me to join him and a talented new hiring at Bristol McCann. Within a year we won the agency their first international award and, within months of that, more than a dozen followed.
